The first William Smith Growth Exchange brought customers and the William Smith team together for an afternoon of practical learning, useful conversations and a very well-timed England win.

Held at our site in Barnard Castle, the event was designed to give customers the chance to step away from their usual day-to-day and focus on new opportunities within the industry. Across the afternoon, guests took part in three rotating seminar sessions covering architectural film, paint protection film and digital marketing, before heading into the onsite Fan Zone to watch England v Croatia.

The sessions were led by William Smith’s in-house experts George Howell and Kris Owen, alongside Shaun Brown from Studio Two.

George Howell’s session, Door Wrapping: The Ins and Outs, focused on one of the most important areas of architectural film application: knowing when a door can be wrapped, when it should not be wrapped, and what installers need to be aware of when working around fire doors. It was a practical introduction to a topic where the right advice, correct specification and compliance all matter.

Kris Owen’s session, From Wraps to PPF: Making the Transition Successfully, looked at the growing opportunity around paint protection film and what vehicle wrappers should consider before adding PPF to their services. The workshop covered the key differences between vinyl wrap and PPF installation, the common mistakes new installers can make, and why the right process and workshop environment are so important.

The third session, led by Shaun Brown of Studio Two, focused on digital marketing for small businesses. His workshop explored where companies should be spending their time and budget to improve their online visibility, generate better enquiries and attract the right customers. Judging by the questions and conversations in the room, it was a subject that clearly struck a chord.

Once the workshops had finished, attention turned to the Fan Zone, where guests enjoyed food, drinks and pre-match entertainment before settling in to watch England beat Croatia 4–2 in their opening World Cup game. It was a great way to round off the Growth Exchange and gave everyone the chance to relax after a busy afternoon of learning.
