Dwain removed the previous wrap, stripped various parts of the vehicle and completed detailed prep work before applying the new film. This was his first full project using 3M PWF, making it an ideal chance to understand how the material performs.
Why Gloss Flip Cosmic Dust Was the Right Choice
Dwain selected Gloss Flip Cosmic Dust because it reminded him of Nissan’s famous Midnight Purple, a heritage colour associated with the GTR. Once the full roll arrived, the resemblance became even clearer. The depth, metallic flake and colour-flip effect created a finish that shifted in different lighting conditions and offered far more impact than the swatch sample suggested. For a luxury saloon like the Infiniti M37, the colour suited the car’s shape and character perfectly.
Installation Experience
This project was Dwain’s introduction to working with 3M PWF, and the experience highlighted a few key differences when compared to 2080 cast films.
Cold stretch
The cold stretch properties stood out straight away. The film offered plenty of flexibility, which helped with shaping and contouring, but it also meant edge tension needed a more thoughtful approach. Planning each panel became an important part of the process.
Release liner performance
The plastic release liner made a noticeable difference when handling larger panels. It kept the material stable and rigid while positioning, which helped to avoid unnecessary distortion and made it easier to control the film before committing to the final placement.
Familiar but with new advantages
Repositionability, air-release channels and general handling felt reassuring for someone used to wrapping vehicles with 3M 2080. The added elasticity and paint-like surface quality made the workflow slightly different but ultimately more rewarding.
The Final Finish
Dwain describes the outcome as nothing short of incredible. The smooth, glass-like finish combined with the colour flip created a premium look that resembles high-end custom paintwork. Even though this was a personal project, the response from friends, family and people who’ve seen the car in public has been overwhelmingly positive. The colour transitions, metallic depth and overall clarity of the finish catch attention instantly.

This project acted as a full introduction to the material and gave Dwain the confidence to take on further 3M PWF installs. He already has another wrap planned: a Dodge Ram in the same Gloss Flip Cosmic Dust finish.
