A Guide to 3M PPF Slip and Tack Solutions

For mixing the 3 solutions used in installing PPF Pro Series 200 you will need:

• Clean and clear distilled water
• 70% IPA or 99% IPA
• Baby shampoo or a mild dish detergent
• Measuring syringe
• Funnel
• 3 x 32oz spray bottles (each easily differentiated from each other)

Slip Solution

For the slip solution, you can use either baby shampoo or a mild dish detergent. The slip solution must be prepared fresh every day. Do not store overnight. For full details, refer to the 3M PPF installation guidelines.

• Take the top off a 32oz spray bottle and insert the funnel into the bottle’s opening.
• Pour 32oz of clean and clear distilled water into your spray bottle.
• Remove the funnel from the opening of your spray bottle.
• Remove the full cap from the top of the baby shampoo or mild dish detergent bottle.
• Installers must use a syringe to measure the baby shampoo or mild dish detergent as precision is important.
• The Pro Series 200 uses less shampoo or mild dish detergent than Pro Series 100, resulting in a change in the slip solutions composition.
• Measure 1.5–2ml of baby shampoo or mild dish detergent into your syringe. Do not exceed more than 2ml of shampoo or detergent.
• Squeeze the shampoo or detergent out from your syringe and into your 32oz spray bottle.
• Replace the caps on any open bottles, including your 32oz spray bottle.
• Gently tilt your spray bottle back and forth a few times to agitate the solution together.
• Do not shake the bottle as the resulting foam interferes with the PPF.

Tack Solution

The tack solution includes two ingredients: clean and clear distilled water and either 70% IPA or 99% IPA. This guide includes measurements suitable for a 99% IPA solution. Installers using less concentrated IPA than that used in this example must adjust their mixtures according to the strength of the IPA they are using. For full details, refer to the 3M PPF installation guidelines.

• Take the top off a 32oz spray bottle and insert the funnel into the bottle’s opening. Spray bottles with volume markings on the sides are strongly preferred so that installers can use the markings as a visual aid.
• Pour 5oz of 99% IPA into your 32 oz spray bottle. It is important to add the IPA to the bottle first so that you can make use of the volume markings more easily.
• Pour 27oz of clean and clear distilled water into your 32oz spray bottle.
• Put the top of the 32oz spray bottle back in place and gently tilt the spray bottle back and forth a few times to agitate the solution together.

Hybrid Solution

For the hybrid solution, installers must combine all 3 ingredients used in the slip and tack solutions into one bottle. This includes either 70% IPA or 99% IPA. In this guide, we are using 99% IPA. Installers using less concentrated IPA than that used in this example must adjust their mixtures according to the strength of the IPA they are using.
