Mike Szwacki has been a key member of the William Smith Training Academy, bringing his exceptional talent and experience as one of the world’s leading vehicle wrappers to our team. Having Mike on board is a true advantage, giving our Training Academy a unique edge in the UK by offering unparalleled expertise and insight into the world of vehicle wrapping.

Mike has played a central role in shaping the Vehicle Wrap Training Courses, helping attendees master the skills needed to deliver top-quality wraps while maintaining the highest standards in the industry.

We recently caught up with Mike to discuss his journey, his role, and his vision for the future of the Training Academy.

What’s your background in the industry?

My background in the industry goes way back to my childhood, as it is something I have always been around. My parents used to have a printing company and I always remember being a kid and playing with empty ink cartridges and looking at the big digital printers.

Actual work wise, I started right at the bottom with my first role being a signmaker, which I did for a long time before progressing onto bigger and bigger stickers, and then finally, I got into wrapping.

How did you enter it?

After working for the family business for a period of time, I went into an array of industries but then decided to come back to my roots. I applied for a job at a local signmaking business to gain some more experience and my career snowballed from there. Fast forward a few years, and a few company swaps later, here I am today, running my own wrapping business.

What’s your role at the Training Academy?

My main role at William Smith is focused on the Vehicle Wrapping side of the Training Academy. We offer a standard Vehicle Wrap Training Course, an Advanced Vehicle Wrap Training Course, and PPF (Paint Protection Film) Training Course, all of which I run.

Passing on my experience and knowledge is very rewarding knowing I have helped individuals better themselves in terms of their profession, whether they are already working in the industry, or brand new and trying wrapping for the first time.

In your own words, some up what the William Smith Training Academy is

The first word those springs to mind is ‘technical’. At the Training Academy we pride ourselves on bringing you the best technical advice and teachings in the industry.

I think it’s also important to emphasise that we are so much more than just ‘trainers’ here at the William Smith Training Academy. Yes, of course the training courses we run are very informative and helpful to customers, but our service doesn’t stop there, we are here to offer you the aftercare advice and support you need too.

Why do you think Training Courses we run are important?

I would urge anyone who comes into this market to join us on one of our courses. As I said before, it’s important we keep the highest standards possible because we don’t want the trade to be ruined. Unfortunately, too many times we see bad jobs getting done and this makes the trade look bad. This is what we want to fight against.

How does the training we offer stand out from the crowd?

From a Vehicle Wrap Training Course perspective, I believe the course stands out from the crowd in a number of different ways!

On our course we use a mix of brands from all the leading manufacturers in the industry, including 3M, Arlon, Avery Dennison, and VION. This means trainees get the opportunity to learn the do’s and dont’s of each individual material.

The substrates delegates get to practice on also helps provided a really rounded experience for our customers too, giving them experience in situations they will find themselves in on a day-to-day basis.

Although I don’t feel that comfortable saying it, I think having a ‘real life’ trainer who is TWI endorsed also helps bring  value to trainees!
