When Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen prepared to make its long-awaited UK debut, every element of the new London restaurant had to be completed to the standards expected of one of the world’s most recognisable hospitality brands.

Located within The Cumberland Hotel at Marble Arch, the 7,500 sq ft restaurant accommodates more than 200 guests. Its theatrical interior combines an open kitchen with the bold red and blue design details synonymous with Hell’s Kitchen.

As part of the project, T6 was tasked with upgrading existing joinery within one of the restaurant’s seating areas. Rather than removing perfectly usable woodwork, its team repaired, prepared and wrapped the surfaces using 3M DI-NOC Fine Wood FW-324, supplied by William Smith.

The result was a refined woodgrain finish delivered in time for the restaurant’s opening, with less waste, disruption and cost than replacing the original joinery.

Ready for Opening Day

The high-profile nature of the restaurant meant every surface needed to be completed to a premium standard and ready for guests from the moment the doors opened.

T6 worked closely with the wider on-site team to coordinate its installation alongside the other trades involved in the refurbishment. Careful planning was essential to ensure the joinery could be repaired, prepared and wrapped within a busy fit-out programme.

Working within these conditions also made architectural wrapping particularly valuable. Existing joinery could be transformed in situ, avoiding the additional removal, manufacture and installation work associated with replacing it.

Why T6 Chose 3M DI-NOC FW-324

T6 selected 3M DI-NOC FW-324 to create a realistic and refined woodgrain appearance suited to the restaurant’s high-end interior.

As an established architectural finish designed for demanding commercial environments, 3M DI-NOC offered the combination of appearance, durability and installation efficiency required for the project.

The film allowed T6 to change the visual identity of the seating area without sacrificing the original joinery beneath it. This supported the wider refurbishment approach while helping the team meet the venue’s opening deadline.

3M DI-NOC Architectural Finishes are available in an extensive selection of colours, patterns and textures inspired by materials including wood, stone, metal and textile. This gives designers greater freedom to refurbish existing surfaces while maintaining a premium finish.

The film also incorporates 3M Comply Adhesive Technology, which helps air escape during application and supports an efficient, consistent installation.

Preparation Was Essential

Although architectural film can completely transform the appearance of a surface, the quality of the finished installation still depends on the condition of the substrate beneath it.

Before applying FW-324, T6’s 3M Accredited installers carefully repaired and prepared the existing joinery. Any imperfections needed to be addressed to create a smooth and consistent base for the film.

This preparation helped the team achieve the seamless finish required within such a prominent hospitality setting.

Less Waste, Less Disruption and Lower Cost

Retaining the original joinery delivered practical benefits beyond its finished appearance.

By wrapping rather than replacing the surfaces, the project generated less waste and avoided the disruption associated with removing and rebuilding the seating-area woodwork. It also provided a more cost-effective route to achieving the required finish.

The completed installation demonstrates how architectural wrapping can help restaurants, hotels and other commercial venues modernise existing interiors without compromising on quality, speed or design intent.

For T6, it was also an opportunity to contribute to one of London’s most eagerly anticipated restaurant openings – with a finish created to withstand the demands of Hell’s Kitchen.
