LW Graphics Ltd has completed a striking colour change on a Tesla Model Y using Arlon Coloured Paint Protection Film (PPF), combining a premium gloss finish with the added benefits of paint protection.

The project marked the team's first experience working with Arlon's Coloured PPF range, selecting Gloss Molten Silver (P443) to give the Tesla a fresh new appearance while helping to protect its original paintwork.

A Fresh Look with Added Protection

For this project, LW Graphics wanted to achieve more than a conventional colour change. By choosing Arlon Coloured PPF, the team could deliver a new finish while also providing an additional layer of protection against everyday wear and tear.

Unlike traditional colour change vinyl, coloured PPF is designed to offer both aesthetic and protective benefits in a single application. Its protective properties help shield the vehicle's paintwork from minor scratches, stone chips and environmental exposure.

The Gloss Molten Silver finish gives the Tesla Model Y a sleek, contemporary appearance, with a reflective metallic effect that complements the vehicle's distinctive styling.

Putting Arlon Coloured PPF to the Test

As the team's first installation using Arlon Coloured PPF, the project provided an opportunity to explore the film's handling characteristics and application process.

One of the standout features was its stretchability, particularly when working around the Tesla's curved body panels.

According to the installation team, the film could be stretched and repositioned effectively around corners and more complex areas without noticeably distorting the colour.

Another key advantage of Arlon Coloured PPF is its compatibility with both wet and dry application methods. This gives installers experienced in traditional vehicle wrapping or clear PPF the flexibility to work with their preferred installation technique, making coloured PPF an accessible addition to their existing services.

With five installers working on the project, the team completed the wrap in a single day, despite everyone involved using the material for the first time. The team also highlighted the speed of application, with the film going onto the vehicle's larger panels quickly.

As with any new material, there is a learning curve when working with coloured PPF for the first time. These films can handle differently from conventional colour change vinyl and clear PPF, particularly when it comes to stretching, positioning and finishing.

For installers looking to introduce coloured PPF into their offering, we recommend getting in touch with our team for application guidance before starting your first project. Understanding the material's characteristics and recommended installation techniques can help achieve the best possible results.

Combining Colour Change and Paint Protection

One of the main advantages of Arlon Coloured PPF is its ability to bridge the gap between traditional vehicle wrapping and paint protection film.

For customers looking to personalise their vehicles, it offers an opportunity to change the appearance of their car while benefiting from the additional protection associated with PPF.

The film's self-healing properties also help maintain its appearance over time, allowing light surface marks to recover when exposed to heat.

For installers already experienced in traditional vehicle wraps and PPF applications, coloured PPF provides another option to offer customers who want both style and practicality.

A Standout Finish for the Tesla Model Y

The completed Tesla Model Y showcases the visual impact of Arlon's Gloss Molten Silver finish, giving the vehicle a fresh appearance with a premium gloss effect.

With demand for vehicle personalisation continuing to evolve, products like Arlon Coloured PPF offer installers another way to meet customer expectations for both appearance and protection.
