Every now and then, a project comes along that demonstrates just how versatile vehicle wrap film can be in the hands of a skilled and creative installer.

Jason Woodrow, Business Owner at Just Technics, has found a particularly unusual use. Based in Colchester, his business specialises in servicing, repairing and restoring Technics turntables.

For a recent project, Jason wrapped four turntables using a selection of 3M 2080 films, alongside a bespoke design printed onto 3M IJ280 media.

The result was four distinctive finishes, each giving the turntables their own unique identity.

A Different Kind of Wrap Project

While vehicle wrap films are engineered for demanding automotive applications, this project shows how the same qualities can be applied to smaller, more intricate work.

Each turntable took around three hours to wrap, with the vinyl delicately hand cut. This level of detail was essential as turntable plinths require careful handling, precise trimming and a clean finish across tight edges surfaces.

For Jason, the process was not just about applying film. The wider restoration work took almost six weeks to complete, with two of the turntables requiring extensive mainboard repair before the cosmetic wrapping stage could even begin.

The Materials Used

Across the four projects, Just Technics used a combination of 3M 2080 films, including:

  • Black Carbon Fibre
  • Satin Psychedelic
  • Shadow Black

One of the turntables also featured a blood splatter design, created by Jason and custom printed using his Roland printer on 3M IJ280 media.

The choice of material was deliberate. Jason explained that he selected 3M films because of the quality of the adhesive backing and the finished appearance.

“I’ve been using the 1080/2080 range for many years now and to this day cannot fault anything.”

Why Adhesive Performance Matters on Detailed Applications

One of the key takeaway s from this project is the importance of adhesive performance when working on unusual or intricate applications.

A turntable wrap may not face the same outdoor exposure as a vehicle, but it still requires clean adhesion, sharp detailing and long-term visual quality. On smaller surfaces, any lifting, poor edge retention or installation issue would be immediately noticeable.

Jason highlighted the adhesive backing as one of the most useful features of the material, particularly when combined with primer and gentle heat.

“The adhesive backing is fantastic and when combined with tape primer and gentle heat the application is flawless,” he said.

This is where premium vehicle wrap films can offer real value outside of traditional automotive work. Their conformability, finish quality and adhesive performance make them suitable for a wide range of creative applications where appearance and detail matter.

A Standout Finish for Customers

The final results were extremely well received by Just Technics’ customers.

According to Jason, all four customers were over the moon with the wraps and the wider service work completed on their turntables.

For Jason personally, one finish continues to stand out.

“The Shadow Black media will always be my absolute favourite of all time,” he said. “I’ve been using this media for years and never get bored of standing back and admiring the finished results.”
