Architectural Film Refresh at the Sheraton Grand Edinburgh

Project Overview

The refurbishment focused on a 5-metre custom-built retail display unit in the hotel’s Spa Reception. While the structure itself was in good condition, the existing wood-effect finish no longer suited the spa’s clean, contemporary interior scheme.

Replacing the unit was not practical due to cost and programme constraints. Instead, architectural film was specified to update the appearance while retaining the original joinery.

The Challenges

This project presented several technical and logistical challenges:

· Complex joinery including curves, shadow gaps, and detailed edges

· Live hotel environment, operating 24/7

· Restricted access, with work limited to overnight hours (10pm–6:30am)

· Tight programme, delivered across a strict three-night schedule

Installation Process

The project was delivered as part of a coordinated overnight programme:

Night 1 – Preparation (by Impact Retail)

· Repositioning the unit

· Surface preparation and sanding

· Removal of shelves, lightboxes, blinds, hardware, and branding

Night 2 – Architectural Film Installation (by Novograf)

· Full wrap of the 5-metre display unit

· Careful application across large panels and detailed sections

· Clean finishing to achieve a seamless, architectural-grade result

Night 3 – Refit (by Impact Retail)

· Reinstallation of shelving, ESPA branding, hardware, blinds, and media screen

Novograf completed the installation of vinyl within a single overnight shift, working methodically to maintain consistent quality across all surfaces.
