Keeping commercial vehicles cooler could now be as simple as wrapping the roof.

We’ve added 3M Cooling Film to our range, giving vehicle wrappers and graphics installers a new solution to offer fleet customers looking to reduce heat build-up and cooling demand.

Designed for trucks, trailers, buses, vans and other commercial vehicles, the film is applied directly to the vehicle roof and reflects more than 85% of solar radiation.

By reducing the amount of heat entering the vehicle, it can help lower demand on air conditioning and refrigeration systems, without requiring any additional energy.

A New Opportunity for Vehicle Wrappers

For customers already wrapping commercial vehicles, 3M Cooling Film provides an opportunity to offer fleet operators something beyond traditional branding and graphics.

It installs using familiar vehicle graphics tools and techniques, making it a natural addition for businesses already working with commercial fleets.

“Fleet operators are always looking for ways to reduce running costs, and 3M Cooling Film gives installers a new way to help them. It goes on like the graphics they already apply, so it's a natural addition for any business already working with fleets,” says Lindsay Hutchinson, our Head of Marketing.

How Does 3M Cooling Film Work?

3M Cooling Film combines a highly reflective surface with high thermal emissivity, helping to reflect incoming solar radiation while releasing absorbed heat away from the vehicle roof.

According to 3M, this can keep vehicle roofs between 5°C and 16°C cooler, with interior temperatures reduced by up to 5.5°C, depending on the application and conditions.

Refrigerated transport is a great example of where this can make a difference. While the refrigeration system works to keep the contents cool, the sun is continuously heating the vehicle from outside. By reducing the heat entering through the roof, 3M Cooling Film means the refrigeration system doesn’t have to work as hard, which can help reduce fuel and energy costs.

The same principle applies to delivery vans carrying temperature-sensitive goods, as well as buses and other passenger vehicles where reducing cabin temperatures can help improve comfort.

Built for Commercial Fleets

3M Cooling Film has also been designed to cope with the demands of everyday commercial vehicle use.

Its hard-coat finish helps resist dirt, chemicals and everyday wear, while 3M Comply and Controltac adhesive technologies allow for easy positioning and clean application.

For installers, that means a product that can be applied using techniques they’re already familiar with while helping to keep vehicle downtime to a minimum.

The film is also backed by a five-year 3M warranty.

“We expect strong interest from refrigerated transport and delivery fleets in particular. Every commercial vehicle our customers already wrap is now a potential cooling film job too,” Lindsay adds.
