Vinyl needs to acclimatise, ideally for 3 hours at room temperature 20-23 degrees before printing to allow optimum print quality. Dry warm conditions are a must for vinyl storage. Damp areas can create problems with paper liners, that can absorb moisture and cause cockling and print head strikes whilst printing.
Once you have finished your vehicle wrap, ideally it’s best to keep the vehicle indoors in a controlled temperature environment overnight. This gives the adhesive time to bond.
Moving a vehicle from 20 degrees to -4 degrees will be a massive shock to the vinyl and adhesive, which could lead to shrinking. Ensuring the wrap is post heated correctly and kept in overnight avoids any potential issues.
Creating the right wrapping environment and understanding the correct production methods for your printer is vital. Using the right materials and tools can aid the wrapping process by saving time and effort.
Application temperature is critical to how a film performs; all films should have recommended minimum and maximum working temperatures; and a clean and dust-free environment will aid application greatly.
