Doodle Signs Complete Installation of VION VP5000 Series to IKEA’s Electric Fleet

In the wide discussion around creating a more sustainable and climate positive future, it’s often easy to point the finger at big business and insist they do more. And rightfully so. The impact that mega-corporations have on our planet is not to be understated. However, when it comes to the few actually implementing real, noticeable change, you need look no further than everyone’s favourite Swedish meatball producer, IKEA.

I’ve just been told that they apparently sell furniture too. Who knew?

IKEA have been pioneers in transforming the way they work and are well and truly doing their part to ensure a better future for all. Their aim is to be completely climate positive by 2030 and steps are being taken every single day to ensure that CO2 emissions are cut at all stages of their operations, including their home delivery service. IKEA’s Ingka Group are currently moving towards their goal of an all-electric delivery fleet by 2025, and recently called upon Hampshire wrapping company, Doodle Signs, to help transform six of their brand-new Maxus eDeliver 9 vans.

IKEA supplied the unmistakeable design and logo for application to the side panels of each vehicle. Doodle Signs then decided to go the extra mile, and with a bit of creative freedom and a “lightbulb moment”, came up with the concept for the back panel design as well. The vans needed to scream “electric”. I say scream, but perhaps a gentle hum would be more appropriate.

The material chosen for this application was VION VP5100-02 VF Gloss White V-Flow. The material was selected as it was the perfect fit for exactly this kind of application. Matthew Chittenden, Owner of Doodle Signs, said, “We decided to go with VION because we know how easy it is to install and the print quality is always outstanding. The material bonds well and the V-Flow technology makes it a dream to install without the worry of air bubbles forming. The vinyl was fed into the recesses of the van, so a higher spec cast film wasn’t necessary. This enabled us to stay in budget with our client and maximise the output we gave them.”

I’m sure everyone will agree that the finished design looks great. Even at a glance, the messaging that IKEA are working to promote is both clear and eye-catching, and what a fantastic message it is. The addition of the design to the back panels of the vehicle is a simple yet incredibly effective way of tying the whole design together. It also maximises awareness by placing the message on display from almost any viewing angle of the van.

This project goes to show exactly what sort of results can be achieved when working collaboratively with a set goal in mind, and when creative and passionate individuals come together, sparks fly.
