Maximising Spaces: Revisiting One of Our Favourite Office Case Studies

Vinyl Detail Ltd, based in St. Helens, embarked on an exciting journey in the summer of 2021 as they transformed an office space into something truly remarkable, all thanks to the Avery Dennison MPI 8000 Wall Film Series and the versatile 3M 50 Series for window graphics.

Their involvement in the Ascentis (Lancaster) project came after successfully winning the tender process. In collaboration with Opus4, specialists in office design and construction, Vinyl Detail aimed to craft a workspace that would leave a lasting impression.

Opus4 presented their vision for the modern office space to Vinyl Detail's in-house design team, who worked diligently to create precise artwork that aligned with the project's goals.

Drawing inspiration from Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," the office was adorned with expansive wall murals that artfully portrayed key scenes from the source material. This enchanting design element established a sense of curiosity and imaginative wonder within the office space.

With a requirement for a non-standard flat wall finish, Vinyl Detail sought guidance from William Smith on suitable films to meet the client's specifications. It was then that the client was introduced to the Avery Dennison MPI 8000 Wall Film Series, known for adding rugged textures to elevate wall decoration quality in various settings, including retail, commercial, exhibition, and office environments.

The client was enamoured by the array of textures available and opted for the non-PVC Oak wallpaper to complement the contemporary design of the space. The added sustainability aspect of the product being non-PVC was a compelling bonus and a significant selling point.

For added privacy and aesthetic appeal, 3M 50 Series was selected for the window graphics, demonstrating how different film types and surfaces could be combined to create a more aesthetic and functional environment.

While not a traditional window film, the choice to use 3M 50 Series was driven by its exceptional stability, making it ideal for office environments where temperature fluctuations can occur throughout the year. The client’s vision played a crucial role in determining the pattern, ensuring it aligned with their preferences and the overall office aesthetic. The design was then CAD cut to ensure precision and consistency for the application stage of the project.

Once the artwork, material, and print met the approval of all parties involved, Vinyl Detail's installation team sprang into action to install the wallpaper and window graphics.

Dan Wyke, Director of Vinyl Detail, praised the Avery Dennison MPI 8520 Oak Wallpaper as “a robust, long-lasting product that was surprisingly easy to work with”.

The project achieved an outstanding level of finish, leaving both the client and Opus4 absolutely delighted with the end result. The bold and captivating design, combined with the tactile qualities of the film, added an extraordinary dimension to the overall look and feel of the workspace.

“We would be very happy to recommend William Smith as a material distributor to anyone,” said Dan. “The staff are always very helpful and knowledgeable”.
