3M High Visibility Safety Markings are self-adhesive retro-reflective tapes that enable a vehicle to be clearly recognised whether moving or stationary, by day or night. The markings increase the safety of vehicle operators, other road users and pedestrians.

"Research has shown that adding retro-reflective contour markings, reduced accidents involving trucks and cars under poor visibility conditions by 95%" Reflect UK
"Approximately 40% of road accidents occur during twilight, night and dawn, in spite of the fact that less than one third of traffic is on the road during these hours." Government Statistics
As traffic volumes increase and organisations demand more from the transportation of goods, the need for safety is paramount and clear safety markings have their part to play.
Vehicles that are visible from a greater distance, in poor weather conditions and at night, helps ensure the avoidance of unnecessary accidents.
Users of the product have reported that the resulting reduction in accidents and vehicle downtime makes the application of safety marking tape a highly cost effective option.

Chapter 8 Regulations
Chapter 8 of the Traffic Sign Manual was issued to provide guidelines for companies operating vehicles on public highways. Section five outlines what conspicuous markings are needed on vehicles that intentionally stop for work purposes on public highways. It includes vehicles large and small from HGV to road maintenance trucks, small vans and cars. Vans will need to be permanently marked up where as cars can have temporary magnetic strips applied as and when required.

Chapter 8 is only a recommendation but it is being widely adopted by many companies who operate vehicles in temporary traffic management sistuations as it assists in providing additional safety for those working on and using public highways.
Examples of how different vehicles should be marked up to Chapter 8 specifications are highlighted below.
