The Old DaysWilliam Smith - an established company with roots firmly in the future.

Ever since our first invention, a horse-drawn mechanical street sweeper, we have continued to innovate, adapt and grow. These principles have allowed this company to successfully evolve from a manufacturer of snow ploughs, tar sprayers, pumps and road sign casting, into a modern and thriving business servicing, in the main, the signs and graphics industry.

Our first signs - cast iron road signs - were produced in the 1930's. Later, we introduced reflective signs in the 1950's thanks to 3M's first reflective sheeting product.  The 1960's and 1970's saw our traffic business grow and we began to produce vinyl lettering and logos. By 1983 we became the first company in the UK to introduce plotters and so offered customers pre-spaced letters and logos for the first time - Eurotext was born. This business to business venture proved to be very successful.

ScotchprintContinuous investment in new technology has proved to be a key strategy at William Smith, and by 1991 the company entered the digital printing age by installing the first 3M Scotchprint full-colour graphic printing system in Europe.  We could now offer all sign and graphic companies large format prints.

The investment in digital printing continued throughout the 90's.  Two more printers were added giving us the capacity to produce warranted graphics for a variety of indoor and outdoor, short and long-term applications. With over 40,000 sq ft of manufacturing space and printers capable of producing over 2,000 sq ft of graphics per hour, we could and still can supply customer designs with competence and at speed.

Investment in new and bigger warehousing facilities, coupled with automated stocking systems led to the creation of our materials supply service in the new milennium. Arlon and Ritrama films and R Tape application tapes were added to the wide range of 3M films already supplied. We now have over 5,500 rolls of materials available ex-stock in full, part or as custom slit rolls.

In 2005, we diversified into hardware, securing the sole UK distribution rights for the RollsRoller Application machine. This move gave the company a new dimension and further strengthened our position within the industry as a leading supplier of sign and graphic product solutions.

In recent years we have extended the range of materials offered to include Contra Vision Window Films, Arlon Banner Films and 3M Glazing Protection /Automotive Window Films to give even more choice.

Finally, our product offering has now been extended to include HP and Mutoh printers, Xativa and Seal laminators and Summa and Graphtec cutters giving you the option to purchase your entire digital printing systems from William Smith.

The future looks bright, as we continue to follow our philosophy of 'always exceeding expectations.'
